A Distinctive Funeral Service Kingsway & Main Tel. at 7th Ave. FA. 0268 YOUR EVERY DETAIL REMEMBERED What do you know about your Father and Mother? Dear Diamonds: Sometime ago 1 mentioned an idea suitable for your scrap-book. Now we are going to dis-cuss the idea more extensively, only as it happens the thought h a s grown into something which will be just a little more than a page or two in that scrapbook. It is going to be a book by itself. A Family History Book. And to illustrate just what 1 have in mind I hope to in following issues present one of our own Diamond Club members “Family History” as an example. When Farbror Olle approach-ed this Diamond Club member regarding the idea, she seemed a bit shy of the thought at first. “There is nothing very extra ordinary about our family.’ She said. A very nqtural reaction, yet 1 definetely disagree. There is something extra ordinary some-where about every Family His-tory, no matter how humble the lives, and no matter that they have come and gone un-noticed and detached from the big noices and glaring head-lines of the world. God must have loved the common people because he made so many of us. And so now we are going to take the ordinary Family History o f common people like ourselves, and unearth lives and little incidents which will show that even in an ordinary family there is romance and adven-ture undreamed of, hidden in branches of the Family Tree, which until now have passed unnoticed, or lain forgotten, until you came along and blew the dust of the years away. In the illustration of a Family Tree you would be sitting in the top of it since at present you are the youngest leaf. But as we slowly climb downwards and explore the various branches until at fast we come to the root, we may find that it has suddenly become a gigantic and magic tree, it’s roots trav-ersing the oceans and encirc-i ling the world itself. i So there you are in the top j of a magic tree. At your feet is the world. And as your eyes follow the journeyTng of those roots you can see how from Canada they reach out and unite you with faraway coun-tries across the seas. One root may dig itself into the soil of France, Italy or Spain while /• • 1 ¥ and birthdate, and send to Or opecial mterest to All Young People The Diamond Club GREETING FROM "DOWN UNDER" The SWEDISH PRESS, 427 Hamilton St., Vancouver, B. At the foot of Granville St. is a large neon sign across the entrance to the pier, reading “Canadian Pacific Spans the World’’. Well so does the Diamond Club. Members of our club live in Canada, the United States, Scandinavia, and even in the Southern hemisphere, namely in New Zealand Our Season s Greetings this past Christmas coming from farthest An Invitation to Membership All boys and girls from birth to the age of 18 are invited to become members in the Diamond Club. There are no fees. The purpose of the Club is that we wish to, and try to, do something for our members. What we have done in the past is not very much — nor do we know how much we shall be able to do in the future. Never-theless many of our present members o r past members (who have grown up) have given expression to a very kind-ly feeling towards the Diamond Club, and that the club has meant something to them, even though we feel that not very another reaches out into the starlit, snowy depths of north-ern Scandinavia thus uniting the ice of the north and the sun of the south. And there you are a little part of them both in the top of your magic tree, studying the vastness and stränge possibilities o f the world below. There is no limit to the stränge variations we shall come across as we follow the journeyings of those roots. As ! well as all the odd and funny, details we shall unearth as we 1 step by step go on with our I task of compiling the Family | History Book. It will have to be a neat and systematic job though, because eyes others than our own will someday gaze upon this docu-ment of the past. With that in mind be prepared to do all your scribbling and factflnding out-slde the pages of the book. And as for your Imaglnation and artistlc ablllties, there will be unllmlted possibilities for exerj-cising them. Now sleep on the idea and there after as gentJy as possible prepare poor father and moth- ' er for all the questions In store I for them. I know they will en-joy the book immensely after i it is finished, and someday you | yourself will be very glad you | took upon yourself the task of a family historian. I am sure we are going to have fun and learn a lot of value besides. Until next time “good dlg-ging.” Sincerely, Tant Sylvia. away was this aerogram from Eve Sanders of Whangarei.
