November 29, 1993367 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC on Mondav, November 29th, 1993, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Councillors, M.D. Gates, M.J. Gordon, J.J. Keryluk, R.H. Talbot, M.A. Thompson, and M.R. Wright were in attendance. Also in attendance were Administrator B.R. Kirk, Secretarial Assistant to the City Clerk G. Chubaty, City Treasurer/Deputy Administrator J.G.S. Maitland, City Engineer I.R. Zahynacz, Director of Community Planning C.R. Felip, and Fire Chief J.L. Baillie. P. P ‘ATI His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay introduced the BC Tel, RE Construction First Aid Team winners of the Buxton Trophy, the top International prize im Dublin, Ireland. PROCLAMATION: Whereas we are committed to achieving full equality for women in all aspects of life; “Vhereas as Canadians, we value the inherent worth and dignity of every individual and we expect all persons to treat one another with respect; Whereas violence and the threat of violence are depriving many women of their ability to achieve equality, we declare that: 1. Violence against women is a crime and punishable under the law; Women are entitled to live in a safe environment; 2 3. Offenders must be held accountable for their behaviour; 4 The elimination of violence against women requires a response including prevention, public education, services and enforcement of the law; and Every individual, community and government in Canada must do everything possible to help women, children and familiies affected by violence; we must all work together to achieve a society iree from violence. And whereas 14 young women lost their lives tragically on this date in 1989 at Ecole Polytechnique in Montréal, Now therefore I, Leonard M. Traboulay, Mayor of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM this day, December 6th, 1993, as "NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND ACTION ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN" in the City of Port Coquitlam.
