From the City Clerk, October 28th, 1976, recalling to Council that City Clerk- B/law Amend. | at its October 18th, 1976 meeting the Staff was instructed to draw a ~freestand- ing signs- Land Use Contract to permit installation of two freestanding signs on Lougheed Hwy. H property situated at 2063 Lougheed Highway rather than the one aliowed under the terms of the City's Sign By-law and querying if the situation could not be better handled by an amendment to the said By-law for general application providing that on lots fronting the Lougheed Highway that are one acre in size or less, two freestanding signs be permitted - each having an area not greater than 60 square feet, located at least 100 feet apart, and each advertising a use occurring on the lot on which it is located - both signs not advertising the same use. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the necessary Amending By-law be prepared to incorporate in the City's Sign By-law the changes outlined in a memorandum from the City Clerk, October 28th, 1976 to permit the installation of two freestanding signs on lors that are one acre in size or less, fronting the Lougheed Highway. Carried. Aldermen Keryluk, Laking, and Ranger voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Laking stated he was not in favour of freestanding signs for businesses along the highway unless there is sufficient frontage therefore; however, Alderman pointed out that the By-law can be changed again if the amendment proposed proves to be unworkable. Alderman Ranger commented that if the resolution is passed, businesses will be executing 5 and 10 year contracts with sign companies, which will cause difficulties in having the signs removed
