SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR CANADA WEEK Proclamation of Canada Week by the Prime Minister of Canada, by thé Provincial Premiers and the Commissioners of the Territories. Organize a public ceremony for the Mayor's proclamation of Canada Week. Organize: receptions or social events around a Canadian theme. Involve young people by organizing picnics, band concerts, sports events, etc. - Encourage participation of teenagers and young adults by special discotheque parties, film festivals, art and essay contests, etc. Plan parades and invite businessmen, clubs and associations to sponsor floats and bands; build it around a Canadian theme, .local history, etc. Use company bulletin or association publication to feature articles on Canada Week, Canadian unity, etc. Encourage employees to wear the maple leaf pin. (This could be done through in-house publication). “Hold film nights, using Canadian films and slides presentations such as those from the National Film Board, If there are large industries in your area, they may he able to help out. . Organize special Canada week outings to local historical sites, etc. Service Clubs and Associations: request members to organize special celebrations or to Participate. Invite speakers to address their meetings on Canadianism. Fly the Canadian flag on the office or head- quarters of each association and encourage individual members to fly the flag on their homes. , Department stores and shopping centers: plan a special Canadian promo~ tion during the month of June featuring Canadian products: i.e., Special displays, sale of Canadian flags, etc. Hotels and restaurants: prepare special Canadian menus and advertise ., Canada Week on outdoor notice board. Display the Canadian flag and flags “of the Provinces in lobby of hotel or restaurant with suitable Canadian poster on easel. “Ask the Clergy to use a Canadian theme for their sermons during Canada Week. Arrange for the church bulletin or calendar to have a Canadian motif on the cover and publicize the importance of Canadian unity in same.
