Carried. CORRESPONDENCE: From the New Westminster and District Labour Council regarding "A Day of Mourning” in recognition of the workers killed, injured and disabled in the workplace each year. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Gates: WHEREAS in the course of creating the wealth and quality of life that British Columbians enjoy today, many workers have lost their lives and suffered serious injury; and WHEREAS British Columbians recognize that we must continue to work to reduce the risk of injury, disease and death that arises from employment; and WHEREAS the recognition of past loss of life and limb from occupational injury and disease will remind all British Columbians of the need to re-dedicate ourselves [to the creation of healthier and safer working environments; and WHEREAS our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advise and consent of the Executive Council, has been pleased to direct by Order in Council in that behalf that a Proclamation be issued designating Friday, April 28, 1989, as "Day of Mourning” for workers killed or injured on the job in British Columbia; NOW THEREFORE I, Leonard M. Traboulay, Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM, Friday, April 28th, 1989 as "DAY OF MOURNING” Carried.
