=m 34 = £169 Port Coquitlam Centre/Lougheed Park & Ride/New Westminster Staticn The #169 weekday peak period service will be extended to operate between Port Coquitlam Centre and New Westminster Station via Pitt River Read, Citadel Drive, Mary Hill Road, the Mary Hill By-pass, Mayfair Industrial Park, Lougheed Highway, Lougheed Park & Ride lot, Brunette Aveme and Columbia Street. The new route will improve service coverage to the Citadal Heights neighbourheod and Mayfair Industrial Park. The #169 will operate every 15 minutes in between the Park & Ride and New Westminster and every 30 mimites between the Park-Ride and Port Coquitlam Certre. The development o¢ a full regional bus terminal complete with a park n' vide facility is proposed for the fall of 1990. The facility is required to meet the growing demands for transit in this area. As well it reinforces Coquitlam Centre as a regional town centre. Costs and Ridership Dspects It ig estimated that the proposed changes wili result in an additional 5,500 service hours in the 1990/91 fiscal year and 9,700 service hours on an annual basis. Based on a variable operating cost of $42.00 per hour, the additional cost to the transit system is estimated at $230,000 for 1990/91 and $405,000 per annum. Ridership is expected to increase by 175,000 annually as a result of the proposed changes. 4.5.2 Richmond Service Chances Setting The Richmond transit area is located between Vancouver and the residential bedroom canmmities south of the Fraser River. Richmond can be best described ag a diversified commmity offering a variety of jebs to its residents, achieving a balance between labour force and employment opportunities. While the transit system has undergone a number of minor changes in receret years, a camplete review of Richmond service has not taken place since 1977. Changes proposed for 1990/91 constitute the first phase of the Richmond Transit Area Plan. Phase 2 will be implemented in the 1991/92 fiscal year and Phase 3 in the 1992/1993 fiscal year. 1990/91 Strategies for Richmond The Municipality of Richmond has previcusly requested improved inter municipal linkages as well as en off-street transit exchange.
