In the championship game, Rupert came out with a 70-65 win over the favored Terrace Caledon- | ia Kermodes. All season long it was the Kermodes topping the | tri-city action, and from the opening playoff game staged at Terrace it ap-. peared things would go as envisioned. Terrace won that game, and needed only two more wins from the three games _ remaining at Prince Rup- ert. However, things were not to be as basketball. fans felt they would. In the first game at Ru- pert, Rainmakers blew a ‘10 point lead late in the game and lost 66-63 to Kitimat Rebels. This loss fired up coach Mel Bishop’s Rainmakers -and they came back that night and downed the Ker-_— modes 63-55, oe At this stage it was all three teams sitting with one win and one loss rec- ords. It set up Saturday's. playoff with the Rain- makers meeting Kitimat at noon, then the winner playing against the Ker- modes that night. _ The momentum gained in the Rainmaker’s Friday night victory over Kermo- des enabled the Rain- makers to dump Kitimat 69-54 in the Saturday noon game, and set-up a sudden-death final against - the Kermodes that night. The fired-up Rainmak- ers used home court ad- vantage and a large crowd to help them in their five point, title-clinching win over the Kermodes. Today, the Rainmakers ate at Vancouver’s PNE Agrodome for the 16 team B.C. championship series. They are not among the top teams favored for a -chance at the title. In the opening game played at Terrace on Thursday, Feb. 26, Ker- modes were down by five points at the start of the game against Kitimat’s Rebels. But they hustled back, moved ahead 47-33 at halftime, and went on to record’a 92-63 victory. Rainmakers. - Are you new Call: in town? SINCE 1930 LTo. Kathle — 635-2151 Alma. — 638-1204 eer ee ee ?
