Thursday, September 4, 1952. THE TRIBUNE, WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. Page 3 --- WITH IRENE pores After my recent column about the “News of the World,” an English newspaper, Mr. Cecil Poston brought. over a “Picture Post,” another Eng- lish publication, for my edification. It closely resembles American publications such as Look and Life, incuding the }uxom Italian model well displayed on the front cover. There is one big difference which Tam all in favor of though. For some time, I have Leen considerably an- uoyed at many of tae U.S. magazines. You are réading an-article, Or fol] fowing some picture story, when you come;to the fine print advising you -that it is “continued on the next page.” But what does the next page or two reveal? -~ a beautiful colored two-page spread advertising the vir- ~ {ues of some cigarette or car or soap. And you must turn several pages be- fore you find the continuation of the story. a But Picture Post has confined the majority of its ads to several front end back pages. Many of the advertisements in« cidentacly are or well-known brands ch as Tide, Toni, Philip Morris and Kraft products interspersed with un- familiar ones such as Rowntree’s uit Gums, Anzora Hair Cream, ‘ford film and Zal disinfectant. Well. shucks, is nothing perman- cat in this old world? I bougnt wo vars.of Lifebuoy soap the other day for the first time in years (just so 1 -ould obtain x rubber bath mat. I hope. the poor manufacturers won’t feel too badly about this), And I'll be darned hey haven't gone and ged. its familiar carbolic smell to attar of pine trees, or something. It really has a delightful scent, but until they abolish ‘that horrible yivid-orange color too, my purchases sill stop with these two cakes unless they offer some other needful, mer- chandise with two wrappers. I don’t believe it stops B.O. either — and besides the color doesn’t match my bathroom color scheme. Rum stories... “To train the shark was not said the bosun. “Fortunately, the brig when so simple as you may think,” she grounded was loaded to the marks with Lamb’s Navy Rum. By judiciously rewarding my finny friend with dark invigorating tots, I so influenced his mind that he would give me the better fish such as turbot, retaining for himself only inferior qualities like cod. A trivial point, perhaps, but I thought good for discipline. I was about to send him to bring me a wife from among the girls bathing in a distant lagoon, when suddenly I sighted a sail. Instantly mounting the shark I went alongside and pausing only to present him with the corkscrew, climbed aboard. “That’s a Rum Story,” said the wedding guest incautiously. % \ From 14-ton Pick-up to 10-ton Cattle Trucks, International provides the answer to every hauling problem on the Ranch.
