LONE BUTTE Annual Picnic And Sports Day A Great Success The Lone Butte Farmers Institute and Livestock Association’s 27th an- nual sports and pienie for children was a great success. The weather was just right and a large crowd attended Boys softball teams came from the 100 Mile House and Forest Grove. The Institute gave $142 in cash prizes for races and ball games be- sides candies and ice cream. This’ was donated by various members of the Institute and residents of this district. The first ball game between 10° Mile House and Lone Butte was a hard fought game which the 100 Mile won by a 16-15 margin. In the second game 100 Mile House defeated For est Grove 13-3. After supper came the traditional game of Fathers vs son, With an,age limit of 29 years down apd thirty years up. This was quite a game and after a lot of fumb- ling the fathers won 9-8. In the eve- ning a large crowd attended the dance. Music was by the Mahood Falls orchestra. This orchestra gave us the best music that Lone Butte has had for a long time. Her hop- ing that hey: come again. IN SUNDAY’S double header soft- ball game at the 100 Mile House the host club defeated Lone Butte two straight 13-1 and 12-5. SUNDAY AFTERNOON Perey Wil- lard was on his way to 100 Mile House with five children in his car. Going down Scott’s hill near the 100 Mile a rear tire blew out, the car swerving sharply and rolling over on its top. Fortunately the occupants escaped with minor cuts and bruises. The car had its windshield broken and a side window and the top was torn. DONNA WIDLUND has been visit- ing with her aunt, Mrs. Dave MeCon- nell at the 70 Mile House. THE Vacation School held by the United Church student minister Mr. Chapman from July 4 - 8 had 68 pu- pils enrolled for the course. Assist- ing Mr. Chapman were Mrs. D. Mon- nette, Miss Jean Beck, Miss Sanaye Matsuda. Mrs. I. K. Edall, Mrs.. N. Lind and Mrs. B. Larum. The chil- dren did braiding with plastic strings also braided plastic bracelets, also shellcraft. These were very nicety done. The younger children made plastic statuettes from moulds and then painted them. The final after- noon the parents were invited to in- spect their work. The children were awarded certificates. Cariboo Wrestling Trophy Displayed On display at the first Stampede wrestling match was a handsome trophy, emblematic of the Cariboo wrestling championshp, which has been donated by Benny Abbott of the Maple Leaf Hotel. First hoider of the trophy will be decided at a five-man ‘wrestle voyal,’ that will be arranged at a later date. From then on, the holder of the trophy will have to defend it each time be appears here.
