A fee of $10 was set for next year, which is one of the highest paid in the province. Reason for this is the ambitious in-service program that is carried out. Brownies Corner We held our final meeting for the season last week and plan- ned a picnic for this week as a celebration. Our opening game was 2 new one called “The Naughty Frog” which was lots of fun, with all the Brownies but three hopping about as frogs. At a given word from Brown Owl, the frogs retreated to their den, still hopping, with the three Brow- nies who were “dogs,” chasing to catch them, on all fours. The following girls awarded the Gold Crown for in- spection: Sprites, Colleen Neufeld; Elves, Anita Cockell; were Sharon Cormier. In Pow-Wow, Bowl Owl read another story. This one wa called ‘‘ Mother Wolf,” and tof; a story of the origin of dogs, ‘A wolf cub was captured” by man and the mother wolf would steal in to nurse him until he was old enough to be taken care of by man. Before closing our meeting, we made plans for our picnic, We want to thank Mrs. B. J Ringwood who has very kindly given us permission to use her lakeshore property for the occasion, and we only, hope the weather will be as nice as the location. } The pack will now take time off for summer holidays, but we” will all be ready to go again Little People, Beverley Routley; Pixies, Laura Kirk; Fairies, in September. Back row, 3 Continued from Page Five All through the bull fiight the lady behind me was having her supper. As a result, I had crumbs down my neck and over my back. _ When she had fin- ished her meal she tried to blow the crumbs from. me, when this wasn't successful she brushed my back vigorously. Wow! My back was sunburned. We had a day of rest near Marbella and I got the grand- daddy of burns. I couldn't sleep for two nights and on Sun- day morning I was feeling pretty rotten. I had a touch of sunstroke and slept in the car during our two-hour drive to Granada but after a few Jaspirins 1 was “me” again. Thank goodn as I want to be sick for my first bull fight. Shortly after writing my last letter in Tangiers, we got our passports back and boarded the boat back to Gibraltar. Need- less to say, we did our washing in the “ladies” again. Marg even washed her hair. I be- came very excited during the crossing, I was sure I had sighted sharks, but they were only purpoises. Oh well, I had never seen a porpoise before. On our return to Spain we camped by a lovely little creek near Marbella. It was here we spent a day lying around. in the sun and did our washing. It was a perfect spot, we had resh water, trees and the ocean and a white sandy beach a few hundred yards away. We camped beside a farmer’s pigs and must have looked like a bunch of gypsies hanging our wash to dry on bushes. I love this life, I have been so relaxed during the last few weeks and every day is so new and excit- ing, in fact I have never en- joyed baths at home quite the same way that I enjoy my pad- dies in the creek. From our spot near Marabella we drove along the coast for a while before we headed into the Sierra Nevadas. The Mediter- ranean is beautiful—so blue and in a way a lot like the Oregon coast. On our way from Granada to the coast we saw a lot of homes carved into the side of hills, like those we saw in France. MEET VANCOUVERITES Janet and I met three girls from Vancouver while in Gran- da, They are nurses from St. Paul's Hospital. It is a small world. We also met two English girls our own age who are living with Spanish families and teaching the children to speak English. It sounds like a good deal. Neither of them are school teachers and when they arrived here they didn't speak a word of Spanish. They went to the consulate in London and the job was arranged from there. It is supposed to be a cinch to get a job in Madrid. Maybe one day I will come back. Granada is supposed to have the ry largest gypsy population in Spain and I am inclined to agree. Janet and I were sitting in the car alone and three girls kept pestering us for lipstick, boy were they persistent. I had another first the other day, I had hopped out of the car to take a picture of oxen More about Sylvia's letter home didn’t) Dodds Kidney Pills WB, For Backache, Tired Feeling due to Urin- ary Irritation and Bladder Discomfort. Of course half a dozen men ran to get into the picture As my reward they gave me a bamboo-looking stick from their cart and it was raw sugar cane. Not bad stuff. After Granada we headed for the coast again and we are still following it. Our first stop when we hit the coast was Ali- conte which is a pretty tourist city. The thing that appeals to me most about Spanish cities are the lovely palm lined boule- vards. The streets are so wide too. We were in Valencia today and it is a nice, older city. The buildings are really high com- pared with most of the cities we have been in. GohanonsGohmon FIRST AID AUTOKIT - A handy-size metal kit that fits easily into the glove com- partment of your car. I have just learned that we only travel 150 miles a day. At this rate we could still be in Europe this time next year. We picked up a Spaniard a few miles back and he has been very helpful. He speaks English and has been to Canada and Australia. very HACIENDA June $—We have just spent a night in a Spanish hacienda. ‘The village we stayed at is on the coast and half a mile away is a row of deserted houses. There wasn’t a soul in the place when we went in, but within 10 minutes half the town had arrived. Two 17-year-old boys joined us and bought us a glass of wine. There were eight young girls rehearsing Spanish dances and it was really interesting.
