Martin, Inspector from Simon Fraser Health Unit &present only for Item 2) ITEM CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING — I Recommended: That the minutes of the meeting of the Environmental Protection Committee meeting held on Wednesday, Apri 24, 1985 be taken as read and adopted. I Carried ITEM - RODENTS AND OTHER HEALTH RELATED PROBLEMS ASSOC 2 THE PETS, PET FOODS, SALE OF VICINITY A GROCERIES IN IATED WITH THE SAME Alderman Gates stated hi s concerns associated with the sale of pets, pet foods, and groceries in the same vicinity i.e. Pet foods for ger bi s obv ious y would attract other types of rodents) . Since there may be a potential health problem, there appears to be a need for a Bylaw to be passed to regulate the occupation of such retail stores to ensure that the minimum health standards are maintained. S. Martin said that the Health and Sanitation Bylaws or Regu lat iona curr anti y in place may be enough to dea with this potential problem. S. Martin has to check with his own off ice and hi s super lor on this mat'ieragreed and report back to T. Chong within the next two weeks. & I I I ITEM 3 REMOVAL OF DOG FAECES FROM — PUBLIC PROPERTY At the request of Alderman Gates, copies of existing Bylaws assoc ated th this subject fr om the City and other Mun ic pa ties were obta ned and d str buted to members of the Commi t tee. Copies of the By laws from other Muni ci pa ties inc ude those from West Vancouver, City of Nanaimo, and Vancouver. In reviewing the City's Parks Control Bylaw, Alderman Gates stated that there is no requirement for dog owners to clean up and properly dispose of their dog's excrement from City streets, other pub c properties and pr vate operti w i i I I i I i i I i I es other than their own. TEM 4 — ARTICLES IN COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER Copies of two articles, one deal ing with ths upcoming curbside recyc i ng program and the other a report from the Environmental Protect ion Committee, were distr buted. These articles were read w th the dsc i sion made that they be submitted with the correspond ng photos for pr nti ng with some minor along changes ths report from the Env ironmental Protection Committee article.to The proposed changes are: 1. The Gi -I Guides also be given credit in their participation during PoCo Pride Days. 2. The entire paragraph dealing with recyciing bs deleted since it is redundant. I i i i ITEM 5 A) OTHER i BUSINESS OPERATION AND CLEAN UP Oi TEMPORARY TRANSFER STATIONS T. Chon g reported that the volume of waste material collected at the two transfer stations during PoCo Pride Days was overwhelming. Approximately 500 cubic yards were deposited at the transfer stations. It was apparent from ths type of material which was deposited at the transfer stations, that residents are not aware of the type of material which our City crews wil pick up during their normal refuse col lection. Additional efforts wii be made by the Engineering Department to remind residents that grass cl ippings, tree cuttings, cardboard car',ons, household appliances, boxes, crates, and furniture wii be picked City crews along with their normal domestic refuse.
