The Caledonia Kermode girls’ - basketball team finished fourth in the province, with team star Michelle Hendry chosen as the double ‘‘AA’’ tournament’s Most Valuable Player. AirBC announced it would be the third airline to offer daily scheduled service between Ter- race and Vancouver. Terrace council gave final ap- proval to an anti-smoking by- law. The city ordered an assess- ment of the old provincial police building at the corner of Kalum and Lakelse to determine its value as a heritage building. Although there was broad com- munity support for preserving the building, no one quite knew how to go about it, The preser- vation project was eventually abandoned, the building is still standing, but demolition ap- pears to be its fate. April ‘A contest sponsored by the board of School District 88 for suggestions to give the district a name more representative than Terrace’? ended. Examination of entries was tabled through several subsequent meetings, and at this point it’s still called the Terrace district. The Skeena Zone Drama Fes- tival was held in Terrace over three days. A Terrace Little Theatre production of a 14th Century play, The Crea- tion and Fall of Lucifer, was chosen by the adjudicator to represent the zone at the provin- cial festival. Two itinerant Mormon mis- sionaries gave up their seats ona Skylink : flight allowing young David Milton of Kitwancool and his father to fly to Vancouver for a-kidney transplant. The province’s Privatization Working Group dropped in and sold five sets of $500 packages detailing the procedure for con- tractors interested in taking over local highways operations, Later in the year the Group narrowed proposals to two bidders, and in December North Coast Road Maintenance, a division of Ken- tron, got the contract.
