THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM JUL 1 1 1986 1988 07 05 TO BoR. Kirk, City Administrator FROM: K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director SUBJECT: Mary Hill Junior Secondary School Soccer Field That $18,000 be allocated towards the re-construction of the soecer field at Mary Hill Junior Secondary School. Tkat the $18,000 be taken from the 1988 Parks & Reereation Department's capital budget. During the past year discussions have been Ongoing with School District #43 in regard to the possible upgrading of various schoo] fields. In our discussions we have also tackled the Problem of maintenance costs and Wwe are vLresently working on a more equitable allocation of money from the school board, Initially we had agreed with the school board to do upgrading on certain fields with the understanding that a recommendation would go to council recommending a 50% sharing of costs. The in-house estimate to upgrade Mary Hill Junior Secondary had been $36,000, This would have provided irrigation and some minor repair work to the field. The cost to the City would have been $18,000. However, the school district in the meantime hired a consultant to review all their school fields, with recommendations as to costs and priorities. The school district from this review has chosen to completely rebuild two school fields in Port Coquitlam to a level similar to the City's Reeve Street grass field. The two schools are Terry Fox High Sehool and Mary Hill Junior Secondary.
