SUBJECT: Genstar Parksite No. 2

Recommendation:

a) To allocate $7,800 towards the cost of the
irrigation system in parksite No. 2

b) That monies for this be taken from park D.C.C.
interest.

Background & Comments:

The Parks & Recreation Department staff requested Genstar get
a separate price for irrigation in parksite No. 2.
Unfortunately irrigation was not part of the original
contract and we had hoped that the price would have come in
low enough to be handled by the dollars already aliocated in
the budget. However the price came in somewhat higher and
staff asked that the irrigation be set aside for now. Since
then Genstar has indicated that they would be prepared to pay
50% of the total cost of $15,500.

The Parks & Recreation Committee strongly recommends that the
City participate with the other 50% in order to get
irrigation into the park. The City, wherever feasible
possible, has been installing irrigation systems in all the
major parks; as this feature encourages a thicker thatch and
also is important in keeping the weed population down.
