COUNCIL AUG 27. 1979 Mayor and Council - August 27th, 1979 Alderman E.W. Mabbett : All Weather Field. Attached is a report, as requested by Council on the feasibility and costing of an all weather field, lighting for evening practicing, etc. Unfortunately, the Co-Chairman, Alderman Ranger, and the Recreation Director, Janna Taylor, are on holidays so we could not discuss this cost estimate in committee. As shown on the overall site plan the area known as Reeve ~- Wilson seems to be an excellent location for the proposed field, as it is large enough to provide the following additions in the future. ‘l. A second set of tennis courts adjoining the existing new ones, with the possibility of joint Lighting. 2. A second soccer field adjoining this proposed one, with the possibility of joint lighting. 3. A full sized baseball field. Over the years Council has discussed various proposals on a long range plan for a large play area that would accommodate a numoer of Sports. This area lends itself to the development of such an area. Some of the advantages are: 1. Close proximity to the Downtown Core. 2. Reasonably close to the present Recreation Complex. 3. Close to bus routes, 2 block walk to Shaughnessy Street. 4. Road access reasonably good. 5. Residential only bounded on east side. Good area to drain, with close proximity to Coquitlam River. 7. Close proximity to Coquitlam River green belt. 8. Soccer would like to see a second adjoining field in the near future. Council originally recommended lighting the George Pearkes all weather field for soccer, however our concern is the investment of some $50,000.00 in lighting on property that is under control of another jurisdiction, where the City does not
