August 12th, 1974 Mr. A.J. Willis. ., 3440 Jervis Street, wondered if there was any al- ternative to what has been proposed, and stated his concern that if the pro- ject failed, the Provincial Government may develop the site for low-cost housing. The City Planner advised that the site area may yield about 25 single- family building lots. Nrs. Pat Singbeil, President of the Mary Hill Community & Ratepayers Association, stated she likes the townhouse project on Mary Hill and was of the opinion that the proposed development is a reasonable one. Mr. W.B. Sigurdson, 2727 Larkin Avenue, suggested that a two-week "cooling-off" period would be in order. Mr. Bill White, 3455 Raleigh Street, inquired how much the townhouses would cost, and the builder advised they would sell for possibly $42,000.00 to $46,000.00 per unit. Mr. Dick Ball, 2480 Chilcott, commented that the 8 houses on that street are a credit to the City and that it two more were built there he did not think anybody would be dissatisfied. ‘rs. Dorothy Deppiesse, 2508 Sawyer Place, stated she moved to the area to get away from high density and now finds that townhouses are 'soing up at mv back door.' Mr. C.L. Killick, who spoke previously commented that there is acreage to the South of the subject property, and expressed concern that the proposed project would set a precedent for development; however, Alderman Laking poin- ted out that there has to be a distance between each development. Mr. Killick stated he felt that developing as in Sawyer Place should be continued. Mr. W. Rhodes, 2513 Sawyer Place, stated he objects to the townhouses as he feels they will become a slum area. Mr. Albert Slack, 3547 Carlisle, inquired as to the possibility of a certain percentage of the units being converted for rental if they are not sold after a period of time, and His Worship the Mayor replied that this could occur as it happened on Mary Hill. Mrs. S. Image, 2446 Chilcott, inquired if there was indoor play space proposed for the some 80 children on rainy divs, and mentioned the possibility of them getting tired of playing in their own play area and going down Chilcott to the River. Mr. Barry Jackson, 3468 Raleigh Street, stated his concern about the number of children that would be coming into the area and advised that on phoning Victoria, he had been advised there are no plans for increasing the
