HOUSE OF COMMONS CANADA JAN 14 1932 MARK W. ROSE, M.P. ; OTTAWA — (613) 992-0511 MISSION - PORT MOODY PORT COQUITLAM — (604) 941-4001 ‘ MISSION — (604) 826-7526 December 10, 1981 Mayor Len Traboulay & Council City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister Avenue, PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. V3C 2A7 Dear Mayor Traboulay and Council: I'm certain that Members of Council along with millions of other citizens view the prospect of a nuclear war with extreme gravity. Recent east-west tensions along with the U.S. intention of increasing NATO's nuclear strength have sent thousands of West Germans, Dutch, hunyarians and Romanians Marching in the streets, The reason for these marches is readily understandable since in the event of a nuclear war in Europe, millions of Europeans would be the first casualties. Mankind is currently Spending an estimated $500 Billion per year on armaments, one tenth of which would rid hunger from the face of the globe. Since the average citizen feels lost and powerless in dealing with such important issues and has little Opportunity to express himself, I thought Council might be interested in the enclosed motion recently put forward in Parliament by my colleague Neil Young, MP, concerning Ottawa City Council's decision to hold a disarmament Plebiscite and whether or not your Council might consider a Similar one for next November? 2/2 6
