City Engineer SUBJECT: Request to Upgrade the Cedar Pedestrian Bridge (Public Works Committee Meeting of August 20, 1991) I. That the City approve the construction of the pedestrian bridge over the Cedar drainage ditch located west of Cedar Elementary School at an estimated cost of $12,429. 2. That $12,429 be allocated from the 1991 Public Works Capital Fund for this purpose. The Public Works Committee considered the attached memos dated August 8 and 20, 1991, regarding the following three options for providing wheelchair access to Cedar Elementary School from the east end of Fraser Avenue: 1. Asphalt surface on existing grave This option would involve the placement of a five foot wide lift of asphalt over the existing gravel path between Fraser Avenu. and Prairie Avenue (240 metres). This would not be considered a permanent walkway. Eventually, some cracking of the asphalt and grass growing through the asphalt may occur with this type of construction. 2, Asphalt Surface on Reconstructed Base in Cedar Park, $12,323 This Option includes the reconstruction of the gravel path between the east end of Fraser Avenue and Prairie Avenue aad Cedar Park with two inches of 3/4 inch crushed gravel, a black poly membrane, and a five foot wide asphalt surface for a distance of 240 metres. The estimated cost for this option is $12,323. “The existign pedestrian bridge over the Cedar ditch would be upgraded to meet BC Building Code standards for wheel chair access.. The reconstruction of the existing bridge would provide the most direct access to Cedar Elementary School from the east end of Fraser Avenue and the cost of the bridge upgrading is about the same cost as the construction of a permanent asphalt walkway along the westside of Cedar Park.
