August 12th, 1974 /3. proposed to construct a bridge over the creek. His Worship the Mayor then invited comments from the residents in attendance, and Mr. Hike Walton, 2393 Scott Place, expressed his objection to the townhouse con- cept. Mr. Walton pointed out that the townhouse design looks very nice, but noted there is not a single car, garbage can or dog on the site and that a picture he had taken of one such project in Surrey shows a vast amount of blacktopped surface. He also pointed out that although the project appears to provide adequate parking, many people would have campers, trailers, etc. that would require space as well as repu- larly used vehicles. Mr. Walton referred to the maintenance of the grounds by con~ tract, and stated that while this is satisfactory fer the first few years, what us- ually happens is that the contractor wants more money and if the units are not all sold, then the increased cost of maintenance has to be borne by the owners of the remaining units. Mr. Walton stated that he had worked very hard to buy a house be- cause he chose to live in an area of single-family dwellings - not in one of high density ~ and that he would not object ta seeing single-family dwellings built on the site. Mr. Walton aiso pointed out that the percentage of 7.69 units per acre was incorrect as 1.8 acres of the site is going to be park area, Mr. C.L. Killick, 3446 Jervis Street, commented that there is an average of about 4 units per acre in the area and the proposed project is about double that ss cure . Mr. L. Robinson, 2641 Tuohey Avenue, stated he did not feel the school could cope with what could be 74 additional children, and inquired what the Council was doing about increased school facilities. His Worship the Mavor advised that the School Board requested they be advised before any new housing starts so that there will be as little time lag as possible between completion of new housing and con- struction of additional school facilities. Mr. G.L. Specht, 3340 Jervis Street, mentioned that during the rainy season, the run-off from the surface of the development into the creek may cause damage and serious flooding. Mr. V. Christopher, 3450 Jervis Street, stated "we do not have enough room for our own children as we do not have a park in the area” and stated he thought there should be a park for all the residents of that area. lirs. Barbara Fullerton, 2472 Chilcott, commented on the speed of cars now using Hastings Street, particularly those being tested by Metro Motors, and ex- pressed concern that the 1.7 cars per unit would add to this problem. Mr. Bob Spears, 2633 Tuohey Avenue, mentioned that the services in the area are almost nil and that the residents pay as much taxes as in Vancouver for a lot less. Mr. Spears felt the area should he developed, but not in this fashion.
