Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Request for Computer in Engineering Dept (Public Works Committee) Recommendation: That the City Engineer be authorized to purchase a computer for the Oximate cost of $4500 and that this be funded from the expected surplus in the Engineering Department Administration Account (22310). The continual demands of this position involve the preparation of detailed estimates, cost control on capital projects and cost analysis for the Operation of our fleet. These demands dictate the need for ready access to a personal computer. In addition, from time to time during this summer adjustments to the Programmable controller for the Genstar Booster Pump Station were necessary. This can only be achieved by using the previous City Engineer's portable computer because of it's compatibility features, For these reasons, the Compaq computer Previously used by the City Engineer has been borrowed by the Assistant Operations Manager on a regular basis leaving the City Engineer without a computer. This arrangement braved to be Unacceptable in terms of efficiency. An additional computer for the department to be used by the City Engineer is therefore required. In reviewing the latest budget/expenditure cost information summary, it indicates that there Wili likely be a Surplus in the department's administrative account 0,000.
