/8. October 7th, 1974 attending a Recreation Council meeting on that date, and Aldermen Keryluk and Ranger stated they would attend the Association's meeting if at all possible. Mayor Campbell- From Mayor J.M. Campbell, October 3rd, 1974, reporting on the re Oct.2/74 GYRD meeting October 2nd G.V.R.D. meeting at which time the Hospital Society's 1974 operating budget short-fall, Noise Control, Labour Relations function, the University Endowment Lands, and Board membership were discussed, and Mayor Campbell requested the Council's opinion with respect to the latter two items mentioned. Alderman Ranger referred to the subject of the University Endowment Lands and stated he would like to see some of it remain as park and some of it developed for Residential use. Alderman Laking stated he agreed with the view expressed by Alderman Ranger. Mayor Campbell stated he would like to see the land left as a park. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That a letter be sent to The Honourable Jack Radford, Minister of Recreation and Conservation, stating that the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam has gone on record as being in favour of not leaving the University Endowment Lands totally as park. Carried. Mayor Crmpbell voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Aldermen Thompson and Keryluk stated they wished to abstain from voting due to lack of information on the subject, and they vacated their chairs and left the Council Chamber. Following the vote on the resolution, Aldermen Thompson and Keryluk re-entered the Council Chamber and resumed their chairs. The subject of Board membership was then considered and the following motion proposed: Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alcerman Laking: That the recommendation set forth in a letter from Chairman Walter G. Hardwick, September 11th, 1974, to the GVRD Policy Review and Finance Committee, that "the GVRD Board request the Minister of Municipal Affairs to amend the Munnicipal Act and the Letters Patent of the GVRD to permit direcc elections of approximately one quarter of the Directors of the GVRD", be rejected. Carried. Alderman Ranger voted against the resolution.
