QUNC ° NOV - 3 1975 Mayor and Council October 31st, 1975 Alderman P.F. Ranger Recent public statements by members of the Provincial Government indicate that consideration is being given to the construction of new Court House and I.C.B.C. headquarters to service the N.E. Sector of the G.V.R.D. and possibly part of the Lower Fraser Valley. However, the site chosen for these new facilities seems to be New Westminster. I feel that there are several reasons for locating these new public buildings in Port Coquitlam. : 1. Unprecedented residential growth is being planned by the senior governments and the private sector for this immediate area. We are at present a job deficient area. This deficiency will increase unless action is taken to create jobs here. New Westminster City presently enjoys intensive employment for the number of persons living there. 2. Since it is Provincial Government policy to pay out grants equal to Municipal Taxes, the locating of these new buildings in Port Coquitlam would enhance our Tax Rolls. 3. - Greater cash flow would be generated in the area. I move that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam petition the Provincial Government to give serious consideration to locating public buildings in Port Coquitlam designed to serve this sub-region in Port Coquitlam. ; If Council passes my resolution, it will be very easy to attach statistics to the motion, substantiating our position. . Respectfully submitted:
