By TOM FOLEY The leader of Iran’s Communists said Friday that a new stage of the Iranian revolution has €gun, in which the Ayatollah Ruhollah ' Khomeini is relying di- Tectly on the masses. Nureddin Kiyanuri, first sec- Tetary of the Tudeh (‘‘Mas- Ses”) Party of Iran, evidently did not refer directly in his Interview to the seisure of the ‘S. Embassy in Tehran or the holding of 49 U.S. hostages there, Two main aims “Without any doubt,” Kiyanuri told the newspaper Humanite of the French Ommunist Party, ‘‘a new Stage of the (Iranian) revolu- tion has started. Its two main alms are the liquidation of all Manifestations of U.S. rule in Iran, as well as a deepening of Ne class content of the revolu- 10n by drawing the mass of the People into a more active Struggle against the big urgeoisie.”’ _ The Tudeh Party leader said In Tehran that “by relying di- rectly on the people, the Ayatol- lah Khomeini is striving to | Carry out a firm line for attain- Ment of the main goals for Which he has always stood. The Ayatollah denounced this. as a new. U.S. imperialist plot against Iran. There were pro-Iranian protest marches Thursday in Bangladesh and Turkey against U.S. diplomatic cen- ters, and the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia was evacuated after receiving bomb threats. Ready for military threats Washington’s threats to use military force against Iran rather than accept the Iranian demand for extradition of the Shah were being taken seri- ously by the Iranian ‘au- thorities. Vice Adm. Mahdi Madani, commander of the Iranian Navy, told Agence Fr- ance Press (AFP) that his forces had been put on full alert. “Tran’s Navy is at total readi- ness to face any military action or any attempt to intervene in the country’s internal affairs,”’ Adm. Madani said. Air force key Iran’s Navy is not large (30,000 men), but neither is the Persian Gulf, where large war- ships like aircraft carriers would have little room to man- euver, and where air power would probably be decisive in any conflict. The Iranian Air Force was said to be on full combat alert at all bases cover- ing the Persian Gulf region. Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State, approved the. sale of the F-14s to the ousted Shah over many Penta- gon objections. Grumman later admitted paying millions in “commissions” to Iranians to cinch the multi-billion-dollar deal. Return of Shah It was Kissinger and his friend David Rockefeller, the head of the Chase Manhattan Bank, who pressured Washing- ton into permitting the Shah to come to the U.S. allegedly for ‘‘medical treatment,’’ thus touching off the seizure of the Tehran Embassy and the tak- ing of hostages for the Shah by the Iranians. The Shah, who fled Iran with an estimated $20 billion stashed away abroad, has David Rockefeller as one of his chief bankers. At Thursday’s demonstration outside the Tehran Embassy, a young Iranian told the huge crowd: ‘‘Our fightis against the American government, not the American people!’’ Donald O’Higgins, Tehran corre- spondent for United Press In- ternational (UPI), said the crowd roared back: ‘‘The gov- ernment — not the people!’ He said the walls of the Tehran Embassy were covered with paint slogans, the most fre- quent being: ‘‘Give back the Shah!” Washington has flatly refused to consider this. The Shah, Rockefeller and Kis- singer probably know why. Group formed to counter anti-lran hysteria drive By CLARENCE KAILIN MADISON, Wis., Nov. 23 — Over 250 people, in response to the mounting campaign of racist hysteria against Iranian students, met at the Presbyterian Center, Wednesday, Nov. 14. Under the name of the Madi- son Committee to Oppose Backlash (MCOB), anumber of action groups were set up to offer physical protection, transportation and legal coun- sel for the Iranians. In addition, there will be teach-ins and community education pro- grams about the Shah and U.S. involvement inhis dictatorship. The hysteria whipped up by the news media has already created severe tensions against the Iranian students who are now being victimized by ex- treme verbal. abuse and threats against their lives. To reinforce and “legitimize’’ anti-Iranian sen- timent, the Immigration and Naturalization Department has now publicly announced that all Iranian students will have their passport status checked. They can be deported under any pre- text even though their actions have been completely non- violent. Madison Committee to Op- pose Backlash has noted that the deportation threats were reminiscent of the actions taken against Japanese- American residents during PACIFIC TRIBUNE— NOVEMBER 30, 1979—Page 9 W_W II, and similar to the hys- teria created against persons of German descent in the first World War. Fear was ex- pressed, also, that the U.S. Ad- ministration was using the events in Iran to create another Gulf of Tonkin incident. Diversion from problems In a statement to the press, MBOC warns ‘‘that the Ameri- can people are being prepared for military intervention and the possiblity of war. National chauvinism, racism and the de- fining of the enemy as less than human are necessary if Ameri- can troops are to be sent off to die once again. We call upon all Americans to resist the emo- tional urge to war...” “Here in the United States, the anti-Iranian hysteria func- tions very effectively to divert people’s attention away from the staggering domestic di- lemmas confronting us, . . .” the Statement added. Participants in the meeting urged that contact be made with similar groups throughout the country in order to coordi- nate efforts. MCOB, General Delivery, Madison, Wisconsin 53703.
