THE INITIATIVE: We are coordinating, at the municipal level, what we hope will be a nation-wide dnitidative. We have pledged $100.00 to place goodwill ads to appear in. three major Quebec newspapers immediately prior to celebration of St.de@an Baptiste Day. WE ARE CHALLENGING COMMUNITIES ACROSS CANADA TO DO THE SAME. THE REASON: Many Quebecois support separation or at least feel a need for special recognition because they helieve that English Canadians don't want them and/or wish to take away their culture. This sentiment is played up by certain media organizations and politicians in Quebec. We know, however, that nothing could be further from the truth and that the majority of English Canadians value both Quebecers and their culture. We need, somehow, to make sure that this positive message is received by all French speaking Canadians, especially those living in Quebec. To have three major Quebec newspapers contain a substantial number of goodwill ads from muncipalities across Canada would undoubtedly serve to counteract the negative messages. Please find enclosed a proposal for your consideration. Most sincerely, Clifford G. Branchflower Mayor /pjo (ITEM _ 7 VICTORIA STARET WEST, KAMLOOPS, 1.C. V2C 148 ©
