DISTRICT 43 FAMILY COURT COMMITTEE c/o 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitiam, 8.C. V3C 2A8 October 18, 1984 Ministry of the Attorney Genera! Parliament Buildings Victoria, 8.C. Attention: Mr. Robin Bourne, Assistant Deputy Minister Potice Services Dear Mr. Bourne: Further to your meeting with Alderman R. Smith of Port Moody, with respect to our Family Court Committee matters at the U.B.C.M. conference, we wish to confirm that you will investigate and report to us on the following: le 2. Specialization - Our Committee feals that this is mandatory in tight of the number of juvenile cases, and/or abuse cases that we see in our Family Court. We understand that we have your support on this matter and would appreciate hearing from you in this regard. Scheduling - This ts of the utmost importance in our particular Family Court at this time because of our facilities. We are seeing juvenite offenders and sexual assault/abuse cases ail using the same waiting room. This is a detinite detriment to the cause of justice -- justice cannot be adequately served when the offender and defendant are forced to face each other for often lengthy periods of time prior to court appearance. We might add that this concerns us specifically with respect to the child abuse cases, where a child is waiting in the same room as the offender.
