October 25th, 1976 Committee, October 22nd, 1976, the City of Port Coquitlam not endorse the Burnaby resolution with respect to the Establishment of a Provincial Firefighers College. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Thompson referred to the Keenleyside Report, which was commissioned and received by the Provincial Government at the time, and as the Report contained input from Provincial Fire Chiefs, inquired as to the concensus arrived at. The Fire Chief advised that the Keenleyside Report was brought about by the Fire Chiefs Association, and contained input from the Provinelal Fire Marshal, Fire Chiefs, Compensation Board, Industrial, Institutional, and Municipal Affairs Departments. The Fire Chief further advised that on completion of the Report, the Attorney General met with the Fire Chiefs of B.C. to establish priorities for the recommendations contained therein and while a Firefighters College is a high priority, it is not a first priority. The Fire Chief stated his understanding of Burnaby's resolution was that that municipality wants a college to upgrade the officers of its Fire Department while not one firefighter in this Province or in all of Canada can produce a certificate stating that he is qualified as such, and Alderman Thompson stated he felt the resolution wag much too indefinite as to what is desired to be accomplished. To his request, the Fire Chief stated he would obtain a list of priorities established by the Fire Chiefs organization fcr Mayor Campbell. t ‘Bldg. & Prot.
