NOUVELLES DES ASSOCIATION DES PARENTS (APE) —o PRINCE-RUPERT The Westview School francophone program in Prince Rupert regrets to announce that it will be closing for the coming year, but not before enjoying a number of enriching and interesting activities. During the first term, students presented a play, Les stratégies de lecture, which they performed for the parents. Our director, Mrs. Langlois, came straight from Terrace for the occasion. For the second term space study unit, the students used the class bulletin board to illustrate the planets in our solar system— VICTORIA e— what an impressive presentation! This term, the students will practise scientific method, by growing and comparing three groups of tomato seeds that have been subjected to various conditions representing earth, Mars, and even a Martian greenhouse! Working with a group of students so eager to learn has been a fantastic experience. It has given me a chance, and the patience, to master this profession and gain confidence in my own actions. Thank you and good luck! Francine Masse, teacher, Westview School L’Association des parents de l’école Victor-Brodeur celebrated the arrival of spring with a family dance. The dance was animated by the traditional dance troupe, Les Cornouillers accompanied by the band Pure Laine. It was a fantastic evening of dance, music and community spirit. We are planning a Ciné . WHISLER Greetings from our beautiful, remote mountain village! We have finally taken the time to write—it was about time (thanks to Aiglons de Squamish for the inspiration). Our school, La Passerelle, has 61 students enrolled in 4 classes—Kindergarten-Grade 1, 1-2, 2-3, and, finally, our 4-5 class with Zacharie, our Super 6"-grader. We are expanding yearly. We already have 12 Kindergarten registrations for the 2003-04 school year. Also in September, we will be moving to a brand new school. At last, all four classes will be together and our book collection will have a place of its own in the new library. Good-bye portables! Our dynamic teaching team works well together and we Vendredi for the month of May and our annual year end barbecue in June. Our Comité de planification scolaire has been very busy consulting with parents and staff and have completed our Plan de réussite for next year. Congratulations for the teamwork and effort involved in accomplishing this goal! Pam Migeon, APE parent count on parents’ involvement as well. Sometimes we even have too many volunteers for field trips. The help is always there when we need it...except when there’s 20-cm of new snow on the slopes! The students took part in various activities for Francophonie Week and their parents prepared a traditional sugarbush feast. Students and teachers wrote a theme song for La Passerelle and the school was even featured on a CBC television broad- cast. To celebrate the coming end of this busy school year, we are planning an evening with teaching partners, parents, and students.
