Re: South Side Supply Main

See attached Committee report dated April 26th, 1974, memorandum from the
City Clerk dated April 30th, 1974, and memorandum from the City Engineer
dated June 18th, 1974. The Committee concurs with the recommendations
contained in the City Engineer's memorandum of June-14th, 1974.

Re: Garbage Disposal By~law

Attached please find copy of memorandum from the City Engineer dated June 18th,
1974. Also attached is a report dated December 15th, 1972. The City Council
approved the six recommendations contained in the December i5th, 1972 report
and subsequently the G.V.R.D. agreed to provide the sum of $5,000 to assist

in a Solid Waste Recycling Pilot Project. :

The Public Works Committee feels that garbage collection service is a direct
measureable service similiar to domestic water service and sanitary sewer
service and that a direct charge for tle service ts a reasonable approach,
This becomes particularly important when it is considered that the City is
not able to provide garbage service to all tax payers or residents. It is
also felt that 1f the recycling profect is approved and is successful some
reduction in charges might be considered by Council.

The Committee recommends that the 7 recommendations outlined in the City
Engineer's report of June 18th, 1974 be approved by Council.
