Tm ee February 23rd, 1976 Alderman Thompson advised he had received complaints re Laurier Avenue being torn up again - this time for drainage improvements, and to his suggestion that a letter be written toe the Principal of George Pearkes Junior Secondary Sci 901 requesting that he pass along to the parents through tue students an explanation of the work being done and what the end result will be; also, that such a notice be posted on the bulletin boar¢e at the Hyde Creek Centre, members of Council generally agreed, Alderma:: Keryluk referred to a copy of a letter from The Honourable Grace McCarthy, Provincial Secretary and also responsible for libraries, Sy ‘that he had received from Mayor Campbell and stated he wished tn share the following paragraph thereof with members of Council written in response to advice from Mayor Campbell that the City kad appliad for about $96,000.00 to furnish the new library facility: "The Director of the Library Development Commission informs me tliat i Pee tote oy he has confirmation from Che Praser Valley Regional Library Board thar - considerable improvement in your local service will be certain when the Port Coquitlam branch moves to its larger premises. Your Council is ts be congratulated for this achievement." Mayor Campbell advised he had attended the opening of the community facilities in Port Moody which includes a fire hail, rink, social recreation centre and Westhill Center and Pool on February 21st, 1976, and that in a discussion with The Honourable George Kerster, M.L.A. for the Coquitlam area, who was also present at that time, stated he was informed that the proposed Coquitlam Hospital is an item of the highest priority. ‘Mayor Campbell also mentioned that he had enjoyed very much assisting oi the telephone for the "Telethon" campaign for funds conducted over the past weekend by the Variety Club of Greater Vancouver in support of the Ladner Training Club for Retarded Persons, and Alderma:: Mabbett commented that a contribution had been made thereto by the Port Coquitlam Council.
