, ane ae Vial tid THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMO TO Public Works/Traffic Committee DATE: April 13, 1992 FROM: LR. Zahynacz, P, Eng. City Engineer SUBJECT: Appendix "A" - Correspondence from Local Residents. Appendix "B" - Summary of Traffic Counts in Area. Appendix "C" - Suggestions Tabled for Traffic Improvements, Westwood & Kitchener. As shown in Appendix "A" there are numerous suggestions from local residents for traffic improvements and changes at Westwood and Kitchener, most of which are listed in Appendix "C . A summary of the traffic counts are shown in Appendix "B". In general, after the island was installed on Kitchener in early February, the peak traffic volume on Patricia and Hastings was approximately 300 vehicles per hour. After the barricade was placed at Murchie, the peak hour traffic at Patricia and at Hastings had dropped 10% to 15%. Appendix "C" shows a list of suggestions from residents in the area from the March 11, 1992 Council Meeting. _ In general, the road blocks installed at Kitchener and at Murchie have resulted in a drop in peal hour traffic of about 10% te 15% on Patricia and on Hastings, plus 2 total elimination of through traffic on Clayton/Murchie/Tuohey. The following are some of the negative consequences of these two road blocks: 1. Access for emergency vehicles to Larkin/Patricia/Hastings from Westwood and Kitchener is difficult or prohibitive. 2. Additional traffic destined for the Patricia/Hastings area is now shortcutting through Davies and Hastings (south of Lougheed Highway) causing additional traffic problems in the Davies/Hastings area. Residents from Larkin/Patricia are shortcutting through the Poco Place Mall (or making illegal U turns and using private driveways) in order to go from Westwood Street to Larkin/P atricia.
