Lack of strong Provincial initiatives to preserve future transportation rights of ways. Lack of identified funding sources for the Transportation projects to be constructed prior to 2007. Loss of municipal arterial road capacity to traffic outside of Port Coquitlam. Lack of a Regional Bicycle Path Plan. Regional traffic will shortcut through residential neighbourhoods to avoid congestion on Provincial arterial highways. Costs to municipalities for additional municipal infrastructure capital improvements, The thrust of the Transport 2021 Study is to change the habits of commuters by not building highway facilities and making driving. more inconvenient. Rather than using this approach which has many negative consequences, it is recornmended that the thrust of the Transport 2021 Study be changed to an objective of providing excellent bus transit, coramuter rail and Sky Train transit systems so that the public has a convenient and viable alternate to using the car. tL LR.
