THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 U N MEMORANDUM OCT 31 1983 TO: October 26, 1983 FROM: Peters., P. Eng., ty Engineer SUBJECT: Replacement of Bailey Bridge - Public Works Committee, October 25th, 1983 RECOMMENDATION: That no further consideration be given +o the relocation of the Kingsway Bridge to the Pitt River Road bridge site. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: . Associated Engineering Services Ltd. was requested to provide Council with a report on the feasibility of relocating the Kingsway Bridge to the old Red Bridge site. That report has now been completed and members of Council wilt have received a copy separately for their consideration. The report recommends that the bridge not be relocated and the Public Works Committee concurs with this recommendation. The major reasons are: 1, The estimated cost is higher than the earlier estimate. This is because we are unable to use the existing trestle approach becausa of the extra weight and length of the Kingsway Bridge, The* minimum cost relocation would be a direct. replacement of the Bailey Bridge without extensive rebuilding of the approaches. {ft this option were selected, traffic disruption would be intolerable, lf the option of placing the bridge beside the Bailey Bridge were selected, this would cost $700,000 which is not much less than the $1,000,000 cost of building a brand new bridge to proper elevation. | | ' { rg | boo >) , “a F.E.
