" THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C ยข l] N C | [ | MEMORANDUM 4 MAY 12 1980 TO: Mayor and Council May 8th, 1980 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Tuesday, May 6th, 1980. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman L.M. Traboulay F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer ITEM T Re: Sprinkling Requlations This is the time of year that we usually impose sprinkling regulations throughout the City. This is normally done on the Engineer's initiative as a matter of policy with~- cut reference to Council. Nowever, in 1979 we were faced with a special situation in Mary Hill in that we imposed additional restrictions limiting the hours during which sprinkling could oceur. The special restrictions were imposed midway through the summer when it became apparent that the normal restrictions were not sufficient. The Committee has discussed this and feels that it would be bast to wait again and see whether Special restrictions are necded. Therefore, the Committee recommends that only the normal even-odd sprinkling regulations ba imposed this year. ITEM II Re: Use of Propane in City Vehicles After five months of testing of propane on the cne~ ton van and the dump truck, wo find that the costs so far do not justify the conversion of our vehicles to pipane. Although propane is cheaper than gasoline, wa find that the mileage we get with propane is so much less in the case of these two vehicles that it mora than compensates for the difference in price between the two fuels. According to the supplier of the equipment, this is because we are testing it in the large engines which hava a lew mileage to start with. The loss in mileage would ba proportionally much less were we to use propane in the smaller vehiclas, [Qeves
