NEW BUSINESS: From the City Administrator, April 2nd, 1976, advising that Alderman Thompson wishes to discuss the burying of debris on site for construction . housing construction a “ sites work week~2nd B/law Officer : property projects at this time. Alderman Thompson advised that he had a number of cails from people mov— ing into new homes advising that debris from construction thereof was being buried on the site in their backyards, rather than being burned, and he expressed his concern that this has now become a growing problem. Alderman Traboulay suggested that Mayor Campbell discuss this matter with the Crow Prosecutor to determine who is responsible for disposal of the debris; however, members of Council generally agreed with the proposal of Mayor Campbell that a letter be sent to HUDAC requesting its advice on this problem. - Alderman Mabbett drew attention to the fact that when the second By- law Officer was hired it was suggested that it may be well that he work on Saturdays, and he stated he thought this man’s work week should be from Tuesday to Saturday in order that surveillance could be carried with respect Co to people burning, parking problems, etc.,.on Saturdays; however, the City Administrator pointed out that the work week is set by the Union Contract. Alderman Mabbett then referred to the extensive tree-cutting recently undertaken on the Huntington Rubber Mills' property and stated he hoped those respoasible are going to be charged. Ald.Traboulay re Alderman Traboulay referred to a report from Mayor Muni Evers, President . resol.-Sept/76 UBCM : Conference- * waiving Prov. Sales Tax - * municipal | purchases of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, and he stated he felt the Council should express its concern that the per capita grant to municipal- ities from the Provincial Government will remain at $34.00 this year, as the increase in sales tax to 7% will have an adverse effect on municipal budgeting, and he proposed the following motion: Moved .by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Liking: That a resolution be submitted to the September, 1976 Convention of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities proposing the Provincial Sales Tax be waived on items subject thereto that are purchased by municipalities.
