There is a slight change this month in that, as the month has progressed, there have been fewer Situations with juveniles and more with families,¢specially where there are two adults guarcelling. When I am on the road with Police merers on Pridey a0 cuturday evenings, I observe and meet with numerous youth in a variety of situations. This allows me the opportunity to keep up with their street activities. Also, they become more aware of my availability. The following are examples of situations I dealt with this month: “(1) A police member referred a situation to me involving a neighbourhood dispute between two families who had lived beside each other for several years. One's privacy was being interrupted. The other was supersensitive and as a result, quick to complain about almost anything. For me this involved long conversations with the police member and with each of the two families involved. The families needed to talk out their frustrations and this relieved much of the problem. However, I feel this Situation will be ongoing unless the families are prepared to give a little and be less sensitive about each other's activities. (2) I spent several hours speaking with a man and two of his daughters about their concern for the wife/mother who has a serious drinking problem. They wanted to begin to understand the disease of alcoholism and then concern themselves with the steps necessary to intervene and have her seek treatment in one of the facilities in B.C. We discussed the process at length. They are beginning to work on this and I will sce more of them in the future. (cont'd...../2)
