From the City Clerk, October 12th, 1976 advising that Mr. Weldon City Clerk,Oct.12/ re attendance of Noren representing Brownies Franchises Ltd. wished to address the Council W.Noren rep. Brownies Franchises problem encountered in signing their new premises at Ltd. re freestand. sign-2063 Lougheed 2063 Lougheed Highway. Mr. Noren advised the Council that Brownies Hwy. Franchises Ltd. were requesting permission to erect a freestanding sign on property that is shared with Midas Mufflers who have also applied for a freestanding sign and as the City's Sign By-law permits only one free- standing sign on a property, Brownies’! request had been denied by the Building Inspector. A discussion ensued during which Mr. Norren pointed out that the two signs would be over 100' apart and the sign was a standard design used by the entire franchise operation and further that in other highway locations it had been considered desirable by the Department of Highways that this type of identification be used to provide for less hazardous exits from the Highways. Alderman Ranger questioned the possibility of subdivision of the property to enable two signs to be erected however, this was felt to be an unnecessary procedure in this instance and further that there was some question as to the property meeting the size requirements for subdivision, It was noted that a By-law amendment could make provisions to permit the sign to be erected however, this would then become a permanent change. Alderman Laking suggested the only alternative would be to draw up a Land Use Contract to permit the sign installation as had been used in the McDonald's
