SENT BY: VILLAGE OF ANMORE ; 18-28-39 Q:31AM ; 604469053737684 464 3524 st os Digatriat Manager B.C. Forest Service - Your File 285-35=2: Bagle Mountain guna 27th, 1989 Page 2 As you know tha Coquitlam Area Mountain Study recommended that the Coquitlam Rivar not be logged and retained for its reoreational potantial. The recommandations of that study were not accepted m and as a result there are significantly leas old~ growth areas in the northeast sector; Eagle Mountain is one of the last. Our information is that the 32 hectare area intended for logging is only marginally viable at best and might produce only 3 or 4 jobs for 3 ox 4 man monthe. Can the economia benafits resulting from the destruction of a unigue first growth area; one that attracts tourists and is part of the recreational potential for tha whole of the lower mainland, possibly be justified, when : compared with the potential long term loss in tourism? You may know that the Balcarra Regional Park regerve bounds on Buntzen Lake. The Coquitlam Watershed comprises the Hast slopes of BFagle Ridge. fhe logical method of protecting the West slopes of Eagle Ridge would be to extend the park reserve to include those slopas. I will, on behalf of Council, * be bringing that matter to the atcention of the . GVRD . The Village of Anmore is requesting that the proposed logging on Eagla Mountain he vesoinded and that some other more appropriate place be subatituted for any commitments the Forest Service may have in respect to the Small Business Forest Enterprias Program.
