For the past 15 years, the Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver / has staged a great annual celebration highlighting the music and songs of talented artists from throughout the francophone world. On its 15th birthday, the Festival brings you unequalled programming representing the major trends in its history. For starters we pay tribute to the strong bonds connecting us to Quebecois music at our birthday Gala event of Saturday, June 19. Artist Paul Piché is a living legend and has been our cultural flag-bearer since the 1970s. Ariane Moffatt is one of our most promising young artists. Come and join them on the 7th Avenue outdoor stage for a panoramic sampling of Quebec song through their voices. This year marks the 400th anniversary of francophone presence in the Americas and Acadia is also in for a celebration, highlighting two of its best-known voices: Sandra LeCouteur and Edith Butler. Our Acadian celebration also sets the stage for presentations in different community centres in Vancouver. Home-grown artists will share the spotlight. Among them are the laureates of B.C.’s own Gala provincial de la chanson, the band Doctorog and a DJ for our St-Jean-Baptiste night celebration. We will also feature a concert by Danielle Hebert, whose latest alburt _ will be launched during the Festival. In the last decade and a half, the Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver has become one of this city’s favourite events, and for the first time this year, thirsty festival-goers on 7th Avenue can at last escape the confines of the enclosed beer-garden and circulate at will throughout the site with glass in hand, as is the custom in Quebec at similar events! In addition, for this year’s celebrations two of our performances will be recorded for radio and television broadcasts beyond our mountains and shores. Long live the Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver!
