Mayor and Council June 21, 1974 Council will also recall that last year a resolution was passed agreeing to assist the Hospital Society in meeting additional expenses which would not be covered from their approved planning budget. Although Port Coquitlam agreed to contribute a share of the planning costs over and above the approved budget the other municipal components did not approve the contribution. Mrs. Angus informed the Committee that the question of obtaining additional funds has not been settled and they are having considerable difficulty in meeting operating expenses. Mayor Campbell has agreed to essist in resolving this problem at the G.V.R.D. level. 3. Hawthorne Lodge. Mr. Al Keenleyside attended the meeting and brought the Committee up to date on the progress of negotiations with the Province on the operation of Hawthorne Lodge. He informed the Committee that the Provincial Government continues to subsidize the Home's operation to take care of the many extensive care patients placed in the Home. The staff at the Lodge has now been.certified under the B.C. Government Employee’s Union and this has added to their operating deficit in terms of increased salaries. Mr. Keenleyside informed the Committee that if a Provincial takeover is not resolved the Society may have to approach the Council with regard to a tax exemption for 1975. They will keep the Council informed and will advise us further in this regard.
