Double last year Ss Golfers set goal for Special Olympics fund raising match Organizers are hoping to double the $2,000 earned last year for the Terrace Special Olympics at the first annual CFTK Fun Scramble golf tour- nament at the Skeena Valley golf club. The initial event attracted 82 golfers for that 18-hole event. This year, all 82 golfers from the past have been invited back for the August 7 tournament. An additional 20 players can sign up for the $60 fee by con- tacting tournament chairman Stu Crouse at CFTK (635-6316). Northwest swimmers sixth in B.C. championships Following outstanding results at the B.C. junior provincial championships in June at Vic- toria, the Northwest’s combina- tion club of Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Terrace swimmers put on another outstanding show at the B.C. age group championships in Vancouver on the July 9 weekend. . Known as the Points North swim club, they took sixth place out of 27 clubs competing in this major event. More than: 500 swimmers took part, but Points North gave strong efforts and came home with several medals. The Canadian Dolphins club scored a whopping 4,462.5 points, more than doubling the point total of the runnerup team from California. Points North finished 229 points ahead of seventh-place Chena Swim ‘Club. On the split for male and female competitors, our women’s team actually finished second to the Dolphins. Terrace’s Jocelyn Coxford ran up 288 aggregate points to finish as top Canadian female for her 10-and-under age group. Jocelyn won gold in the 50 - butterfly, 100 butterfly and 400 -individual medley. She also won silver in the 200 I.M. and bronze ~ street heat, and street main. The in the 100 backstroke. Jocelyn added three fourth- place and one sixth-place finish to her total. Another excellent showing came from. Kitimat’s Allison Barriscale who was named to the B.C. team that will attend the Far Western. championships in - - California the first week of August. , This team was picked from the girls 11-and-12, and boys 13-and-14 age groups. Barriscale ran up gold medal performances for the 100 fly, 400 I.M., 200 I.M., and 50 freestyle, She got silver for the - 200 fly, bronze for the 100 free, and added a fourth and a seventh place in backstroke events. Other swimmers showing their prowess included Kitimat’s Graeme Last with a gold and three bronze; Terrace’s Aimee Peacock with three silver; and Erin Toplak of Rupert with a bronze. Barriscale and Nathalie Paolinelli of Rupert were also selected to compete in the Cana- dian National Youth Champion- ships at UBC this coming weekend, Race results Danny Fagan and Phil.
