The Prince Rupert Forest
District reports that seven
new fires, of which five are
still burning, occurred this
week. Air tankers were used
on one fire at Fort Babine,
Mop up operations are
continuing on the fire in the
lava beds in the Terrace
Ranger District.

In addition to the obvious

forests from fire, the Prince
Rupert Forest District is
attacking our insect
problems. The Mountain
Fine Beetle is one of the
major insect pests in this
Forest District. This tiny

attacking Forest stands in
the Kitwanga and ‘Hazelton
Ranger Districts, [t has also
attacked pine stands to the
east, but is considered under
control through to Burns
Lake.
