SUBJECT: Paving of Underpass

Recommendation:

That the contract for grinding of the pavement and
repaving the underpass be awarded to imperial Paving.at the
tendered price of $27,438.00 and that the date for the.
underpass closure be Sunday October 26, 1986 or Sunday November
2, 1986 dependent on the weather. a

Background and Comments:

The 1986 Budget includes the sum of $22,000.00 for paving
of the underpass. This figure was based on a verbal quotation
from Cewe in the spring. Due to the need to investigate a
drainage problem and determine the best method of resurfacing,
it was not possible to do the work in the spring.

i Tenders have now been catled and four tenders were
received as shown on the attached recap sheet. Tenders are al|
higher than the budgeted amount but are spaced fairly closely
Indicating that the given contract price is reasonable. The
additional amount can be taken from the future capital reserve.

Dates for the work have been specified as a sunday due to
the traffic disruption that would result if the underpass was
closed on a weekday or saturday. We do not feel that the City.
could accept a full closure on any other day. The contract
prices reflect the cost of overtime for workiiig on a weekend.
