They shot a 32 for the nine-hole event that attracted 80 golfers. Three foursomes tied for runnerup with scores of 34. In the boys and girls junior volleyball playdown at Prince Rupert’s Booth Junior High School Oct. 2, Thornhill won the boys’ side. They beat Ter- race Skeena 12-15, 15-6, 15-10 in the final. The playoff for third and fourth saw Booth knock off Kitimat. In the round-robin preliminary, Thornhill _ placed first with Skeena second, Booth third and Kitimat last. In the girls’ tourney, Booth wound up on top by beating Kitimat in the final. Thornhill took third with a win over Skeena. - Thornhill (third), 15th in tournament ment on the Oct. 2 weekend in Vancouver. . Kermodes topped their five- team preliminary round-robin pool rather handily by scoring two. straight victories over Rutland, Earl Marriott, John Barsby of Nanaimo and Clear- water. Their move to the 16-team double-knockout final wasn't as successful. Kermodes lost their best-of- three matches to Kelowna’s K.L.O. and Surrey’s Queen Elizabeth in straight sets. Lam- brick Park of Victoria emerged as champion. 7 Meanwhile, in a senior girls’ volleyball tournament at Prince George, Smithers came home with second place while Kitimat finished out of the money. In round-robin, Kitimat open-_ ed with a 9-15, 12-15 loss to D.P. Todd. Then they beat Fort St. James 15-4, 15-11 and defeated 100 Mile House 15-3, 15-3. In the championship round- robin, Smithers posted 2-0 wins’ over Dawson Creek, West Van and Kitimat. Kitimat also lost 15-1, 15-3 to West Van, but beat Dawson Creek. 17-15, 14-16, 15-7. After moving ahead and win- ning their semi-final, Smithers took on Prince George Senior High .in the championship match, where they lost out 16-14, 17-15. Junior volleyball results Kitimat hosted 15 boys and girls teams for grade eight volleyball tournament action on Oct. 2. Final standings were as follows. Boys — Kitimat ‘A’ (first), (second), Skeena Booth ‘A’ Kitimat ‘B’ (fifth), Booth ‘B’ (sixth) and Kitwanga (seventh). Lok told us they have a port- able boxing ring at the Arena which has been used in- past years for both boxing and wrestling shows.
