The following will serve as an introduction to the raku artist and his two week intensive kiln-building workshop at MISSA starting June 20th, Randy Broadnax, one of the beat known potters in Texas, and currently head of the Ceramics Dept. at Cedar Valley College near Dallas, will present a RAKU Workshop at the West Point Grey Community Centre ln Vancouver |Aberthay Coach House] on Sunday, June 13th. Randy has specialized in raku for many years. and is a very inventive technician anc amasterin the art of kiln desi¢n and fabrication. The workshop will focus on how kilns can be adapted of independent potters at a low cost. Randy will bring his portable raku kiln which fires through Cone 06 te 10. As well as sharing his knowledge and a variety of experimental glazes, he will show how to bulld a wood-firing raku Kiln that fires in 30 minutes. Participants should bring three or more pieces of their bisqued raku clay work (8" high, max) and some brushes. On Saturday, a relaxed evening including a slide presentation and tales of the Loulsiana swamp will be held at the home of the host, John Givins, at 152] Salisbury Dr. BYOB.
