TO: Mayor and Council DATE: Apr FROM: Health Committee The Health Committee met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on Thursday, - April 26, 1973. The following items were discussed: 1. Local Initiatives Project - Bird Inventory ~ Mr. Rick Jerema, supervisor of this project attended the meeting and submitted a > progress report. A copy of the report is attached for Council's information as -_ __ the Committee felt that the report was of considerable interest to the public. Note particularly the comments in the last paragraph of the report. The amount of funds available for the project does not permit sufficient time ; 1 to adequately survey the summer bird population although Mr. Jerema felt that . valuable information could be obtained if the project could be extended to the end of June. The Committee will be making application to Canada Manpower to see if an extension for one month would be possible. f 4 ยข 2. Mosquito Control . 8 The matter of obtaining an air waiver for aerial spray was tabled by Council two weeks ago. The Committee would like further time on this particular matter in view a of the request sent by the Chairman to the Mosquito Control Board asking for : clarification on changes in the agreement between the Mosquito Control Board and the municipalities. There has apparently been changes in the contract wording that have not been made available to the municipal representatives and Alderman Meyer e . would like to get clarification of the wording changes before making a recommendation to Council. With regard to the mosquito control program for 1973 we have been informed that the opportunities for youth grant applied for has been turned down. Dr. Munroe has : informed the Committee that he will be obtaining the services of approximately ten : students for the summer months on another O.F.Y. grant and that these students would be available for ground control larviciding.
