Peters, City Engineer Location for Crossing of Cedar Ditch oe _ As you know, there igs an item in the Budget for a widening of the Cedar Ditch from the pump station to DeBouville Slough and the addition of a second culvert at the Huber. Drive crossing. This was necessary in order to allow adequate flow of water to the river and prevent flooding upstream of the pumping station. The Committee has discussed two alternatives for the location of the improved ditch crossing, The first location would be at its present location shown as Location 1 on the attached sketch and. the alternative location would be at the end of Victoria Drive shown as Location 2 on the attached sketch. There are several advantages to location 2. Location 2 lines up with Victoria Drive which will become the through street rather than Huber. It provides a better route for buses if buses are to be extended along Victoria Drive. It also eliminates some of the through traffic from the residential Streets of Mars and Huber. The Committee recommends that the new crossing be constructed at Victoria Drive and that the existing crossing at Huber Drive be removed so that the culvert can be re-used in the new crossing. ITEM II Re: Policy on Lane Openings The Committee have been asked by Council to develop a policy for the opening of unopened lanes and road allowances. It was Council's desire to ensure that residents who might have an interest in the lane would be fully informed and have a chance to voice their Opinions prior to any such Opening. In searching through the Files we find that Council did make a policy statement on the opening of unopened road allowances in November of 1969. This policy, however,
