Alderman Nike Gates City Hall, 2272 NcAllister Port Coquitlam, Ave., B.C., V3C 2AS Dear Nike Enclosed please find copies of letters received from the Park and Recreation Department» as well as a letter from Poco Saints Lacrosse Assn.» dated Feb. 26 » 1990 outli ques or both Senior and Junioz and play-off games. Also enclosed, is the'B'acrosse League schedule of games and play aff dates for both teams. ' let: letter from the Parks and Departme men t: st ates weThecannot use the old arena after Recreation 5. To say the least, we are amazed — we really wonderAugust wants Junior and Senioz Lacrosse out of the if Port Coquitlam City. At the meeting wit.h the Parks and Recreation Department in Febuary, I believe, Hugh Tait, Sally Hurst, Dave Parsons, Mazy-Ann Parsons and myself, understood the old arena would be available for all games, including play-offs. Now according to the letter from the Parks and Recreation Dept. the old arena will not be available aftez August 5. Where are we to play our play-off games? — — — We are committed to ouz leagues, to have an arena to play in. It is quite impossible to get another arena at this time, as well as t: he fact, our Senior on the admission gate» canressi ans and and Junior teams depend draw» a part of our operating It would be50/50 a great financial - if set-back for u expenses. these games were cancelled because of arena availability, plus we would face fines by our leagues. Also, because we would be using a non resident arena w e wau ld e aced with rental of $ 75. 00 per hour and higher, which we cannot afford. fees Coquitlam is the only City and/or Municipality where Port Senior and Junior Lacrosse have trouble wit:h arena availability. The Poco Saint's Junior 'B're doing extremely w 11 t his is year and we are ant:icipating going to Esquimalt in August for the Championship'The Founders Cup. I 'UL 4 IgtIU We have also been entertaining thoughts of hosting the Pounders Cup next year~ but can hardly apply if the arena is not available. The Poco Saint's Senior 'B'ze just getting off the ground, but plans are already being made for a better and stronger team next year~ as well as the possibility of hosting the play-offs in the future, The Presidents Cup. Are we required to go through this has -le every year'? Are Lacrosse players not as important as the ice skaters? Many of our players feel they are being tzeated like second-class citizens. We agreed at the meeting, (.o advise the Parks and Recreation Department if we do not make the play-offs and as soon as we no longer need the arena. Our Commissioners will advise us of our play off games as soon as the last league game is played and we would then advise the Parks and Recreation Department. We cannot use the arena until April 18 and do not feel Lacrosse using the the arena for 3 months is too much to expect. Your assistance in helping Senior and Junior 'B'acrosse in Port Coquitlam is very much needed and would be greatly appreciated. Should you wish to speak with the Commissioners~ they are: SENIOR-Mrs. Dozeen Morris-584-5823(res) JUNIOR Nz. Frasez MacDonald 591-3793(re-) 251-7713(bu. ) They would be pleased to answer any of your questions. We are, needless to say, very upset and disturbed over the Parks and Recreation Department's letter and so aze our players and parents, a majority of which, reside heze in Port Coquitlam. Attached i the Mayor's Message on behalf of the City of Port Coquitlam, wishing our teams the best ---- somehow, the words do not fit in with what is happening. We would like some assurance, not just for this year, but future year:., the old azena will be available for — — — lacrosse. Thanking you in advance for youz kind consideration.
