Maitland, City Treasurer - Deputy Administrator SUBJECT: Leigh Square Medical building FIG Committee - May 20, 1993 Recommendations: That the funds allocated fo r renovation of the former Leigh Square Medical Centre be reallocated as follows: Demolition of former medical centre $12,000 City Hall furniture and renovation $25,J00 and that $40,C00 be allocated from our Parking Reserve to tuilding 28 parking spaces on the site. Background & comments: Over the next few years, we will have a need to fit more staff into City Hall to enable staff expansion which is expected in Engineering, Personnel and Treasury. However, we do not have an immediate need for more space. Mr. Barkley met with the committee on March 23rd to review his report and during the meeting he expressed the Opinion that the building was built in the 1950’s and was designed to last thirty years and that if we undertook the renovation we would be looking at extending the life of the building for only another ten to fifteen years. Some of the major costs of the Proposed expansion is a result of the building close to City Hall.
