Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution Alderman Ranger inquired regarding the accuracy of acreages in the report and asked that the report be checked to make sure all areas have been included. Alderman Ranger also referred to the possibility of constructing a reservoir on Mary Hill and suggested that this should always be kept in mind. Alderman Ranger stated this construction should be considered a priority and the City Engineer advised completion would be expedited as much as possible. Alderman Gates returned to the Council Chamber at 9:15 p.m. and took his place at the table. Parks & Rec, From the Parks & Recreation Committee, March 12th, 1980 advised Comm., Mar. 12/80 re Advertising receipt of a letter from the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association regarding - Arena boards. advertising on the boards at the ice arena. Aldermen Mabbett, Gates and Wright spoke in favour of arena advertising. BR Old Timers' Hockey Tournament to be held October LOth, llth, 12th, and 13th, 1980. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Gates: That as recommended by the Parks and Recreation Committee, March 12th, 1980 the Old Timers' Hockey Tournament be held October lOth, llth, 12th and 13th, 1980; That the rental rate for the ice for the tournament be $35.00 per hour for a maximum cost of $4,480.00, and the degree of subsidization to be debated further; AND THAT the tournament be given free use of the Mabbett Room. Carried, Aldermen Traboulay and Ranger voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution discussion ensued and Alderman Mabbett asked for a breakdown of the cost of opening the arena on the October 13th, 1980 holiday and Alderman Ranger spoke regarding the subsidy. Alderman Keryluk spoke advising that approximately 1,000 people would be drawn to Port Coquitlam and that it would help the community as a whole. Alderman Mabbett spoke in favour of subsidizing the tournament the same as other tournaments.
