TO: Members of Council March 29th, 1373 FROM: Mayor L.B. Scott SUBJECT: Regional District Committee Appointments Last week Council received a letter from the City of Port Moody request- ing that we endorse a resolution: “That a letter be sent to the G.V.R.D. protesting the continued narrowness in Conmittee appointments, the lack of involvement of other Council members of member municipalities and the appoint- ment of the same people to several committees irrespective of Be Fe est en tte St the importance of the areas they represent." Attached you will find a list of the Committee appointments as made by the G.V.R.D. for 1973. Directors of the Board are appointed by the Municipal Councils represented as are the appointe2s to the Parks Committee and the Joint Water and Sewer Committee. 7 i 4 } f ; ‘ : i i i i } H j i f I represent our City as a Director ef the Board and as our Yepresentative to the Parks Committee, while Alderman G.R. Laking serves on the Water and Sewer Committee. This year I was appointed by the G.V.R.D. to serve as a member both on the Housing Committee and tha Political Planning Committee making a total of four sroups that I represent for Port Coquitlam. I do not support the contention of Port Moody that there is narrowness in Committee appointments. I would point out that each component municipality of the Board haa equal opportunity to make three differen* appointments to the Board if they so wish, namely, as Director, Water and Sewer Committee and Parks Conmittee. _ Other appointments made by the Executive are chaneed each vear as the attached list shows and according to Board Chairnan Mayor R. Prittie, careful attention is given to the Reography of the District so that each “area” is represented, eves Cont'd, Page - 2 -
